Assam Broken Orange Pekoe Tea is a full bodied robust and malty tea that has an excellent color in the liquor. Assam is the largest tea growing area of the world. The leaf is quite small and that adds to the strength of the cup. The 'orange' in orange pekoe possibly comes from the fact that these particular leaves have a golden orange color when plucked, or that in China sometimes orange blossoms were added to these leaves for flavor. Another suggestion is that it refers to the Dutch House of Orange. It does not have anything to do with the flavor of the tea leaves themselves.
